Brass Flintlock Over and Under Tap Action Pistol by Henry Nock, ca. 1800
Early brass frame, made without the sliding safety for which Nock was noted,
with stamped Birmingham proofs on the underside, engraved with foliage and
stands of arms and the signature “H-NOCK” one side and “LONDON” other side.
Round Birmingham proofed 3" brass screw-off barrels of approx. .44 cal., one
barrel with the number “24" and the other marked “25". When the barrels are
fully seated they align opposite the same number on the frame. Tap action
lever on the side controls whether both barrels are fired together or one at
a time. Iron trigger guard and one-piece walnut grips (slightly shrunken).
Henry Nock was one of England’s most famous gunsmiths, bearing the royal
patent of King George III and marking his pieces “Gunmaker to His Majesty”.
Very good condition with small spots of tarnish on the brass and grease in
the barrels and on moving parts. Overall length 8 1/4".
