British P1786/1796 Infantry NCO Sword
Same basic pattern as the M1796 Infantry Officer’s Sword, but with plain blade and guard. These are actually much rarer than their commissioned officer counterpart. This example with 32"straight single-edged blade, the spine marked "GILL" (small bend in center, pitted). Cast brass hilt with symmetrical shell guard, single quillon, knucklebow, and faceted urn shaped pommel. The pommels on these nearly always had a button, but lacking on this example and possibly removed during its period of use. Grip with twisted brass wire wrap (slightly loose). Overall length 38". Rarely encountered sword of the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812.
