Tapering solid round-section forged steel shaft with turned baluster. Head with 3 ½" crescentic axe blade and curved 3" diamond-section rear spike with chiseled line decoration and chevron; integral dovetailed belt hook. Upturned hand guard with slot for wrist strap; two-stage pommel; original wood grip and leather wrap. Original uncleaned condition showing forging marks and scattered pitting. Style and workmanship similar to Saxon warhammers of the 16^th C, but a much rarer type.
