Rare Italian Flintlock Sporting Gun, ca. 1680
Tapered octagonal to round 43" barrel of 25 bore (slight damage to muzzle)
with dovetailed foliate silver rear sight (foresight missing). Rounded lock
with engraved decoration (worn), chiseled and engraved hammer and frizzen.
Walnut full stock with curved butt of Catalan form (fore-end with splits and
some damage), inlaid with pinned brass panels, pierced and engraved with
foliage and birds. Cast and chased brass trigger guard and side plate with
foliate decoration and monster heads. Pierced engraved trigger, brass sling
loops and pierced and engraved barrel bands (one a later replacement).
Original iron ramrod with turned baluster tip. Iron parts with light
pitting, somewhat heavier on the barrel. An extremely rare and desirable gun
