About Us
Renaissance Woodcraft was founded by Greg Walter, a licensed contractor in Ft.
Myers, Florida in 1990. Greg had been doing woodworking as a hobby since the
early 1970's and occasionally took on paying jobs. His customers were so
thrilled with his work that he thought it would be a good time to lease a large
shop and do woodworking full time. Soon after opening, the company built a name
for itself and had more customers than it could handle. Eventually they were
forced to expand, take on a business partner, and hire additional employees.
However, a large production shop could never meet Greg’s stringent quality
standards and he soon took his key employees and went back on his own, retaining
the Renaissance Woodcraft name. Quality has always been #1 because their own
standards of quality exceed those of their customers. During this time in
Florida, the work of Renaissance Woodcraft received two prestigious Aurora
Awards and was featured in the magazines “Home and Condo” and “Qualified
Remodeler”.
Despite the growing business, Greg had always longed to move to the North
Carolina Mountains where he had purchased 8 acres in 1988. In 2004 his dream
came true when he finished his built-from-scratch home and an 1800 square foot
custom shop and dry kiln on this property and closed the Florida shop. The North
Carolina shop is now up and running and Renaissance Woodcraft is taking on new
clients in Western North Carolina, Northeast Georgia, and Upstate South
Carolina.
The company philosophy has always been to accentuate the natural beauty of wood
and take the fullest advantage of its unique properties. They specialize in
exotic woods and prefer to choose woods using their natural colors and textures
to achieve the desired results. Their extensive knowledge of wood and its
properties allows them to come up with unique results and wood species which few
have even heard of. Specialties include cabinets, millwork, staircases, custom
doors, entertainment centers, and custom furniture. The company can build just
about anything you can think of and has never encountered a project it was
unable to successfully complete. Experienced working with architects, builders,
designers, or directly with the homeowner, they can complete a job to your
specifications, help you design a project, or design from scratch. Many
customers have simply brought in a page torn from a magazine and said, “Build
this and make it fit my house”. No problem!
If you are looking for a company to produce a hundred identical Formica
kitchens, Renaissance Woodcraft is not for you. However, if you are looking for
