Spanish Rapier, 2nd Half 17th C
Large elongated cup guard with incised line decoration; integral pierced knucklebow screwed to the faceted bun-shaped pommel. Long straight quillons with turned button finials. Original twisted wire grip wrap with faceted ferrules top and bottom. Slender 38" hexagonal-section blade with 8" fuller, stamped "FRANCISCO" one side and "RUIZ EN TOLEDO" on the other. Metal cleaned and smooth overall with very clear blade markings. Overall length 42 1/4". Francisco Ruiz, the Younger, was active in Toledo during the mid 17th C
