Description

Regulation pattern steel “gothic” hilt with the crowned bugle badge of rifle regiments in the
center of the guard. Shark skin grip with two sizes of twisted copper wire and steel ferrule
at the base; integral knurled steel backstrap. Straight 32 ½” blade with broad single fuller,
lightly etched with foliage and royal emblems; the ricasso etched with “BY
WARRANT/*HENRY*/ WILKINSON/PALL MALL/LONDON” overstamped with “I.S.D” on
obverse and brass inset “HW” in the middle of an etched 6-pointed star with stamped
broad arrow over “I” and the date “1923″ on the reverse. The stamped markings over the
etching may indicate a later re-issuing of an earlier sword. The undress version of this
sword features a steel scabbard, but this is the dress version with a high-quality wood
scabbard covered with dark brown leather and featuring a steel throat. Original leather
frog and carrying straps with steel fittings. Overall length 38 5/8″. Very good complete
condition, showing typical wear associated with age and use.
