Description
Made from a flattened Spanish gourd and carved with geometric and floral designs. Carved
with date “1421″ and initials “CB”. Sewn cord carrying loops coated with paraffin. This rare
piece has been examined by the Landesmuseum in Zurich and authenticated as an original
15th C Swiss canteen. This museum has several similar examples in its collection.
Diameter approximately 6 ½” by 3 ½” wide. Hole bored in top for cork or wood stopper
(missing). Extremely rare and early piece!
