Description
Featuring earlier (ca. 1660) unmarked 29 1/2″ (75 cm) flamboyant blade of flattened
diamond section. Brass one quarter basket hilt formed with side bar and knuckle guard
joined to the sherical pommel with button finial; two scrolling bars on each side of the
knuckle guard join the assymetrical shell guard, with the bar on the obverse also joining the
side bar. Wood grip wrapped with alternating single-strand and twisted brass wire and
finished with brass ferrules top and bottom. Blade pitted with dark age patina; the brass
with pleasing patina on the outside and some gray-green oxidation on the inside. Overall
length 36 1/2″ (92.7 cm).
