Description
Gilt brass hilt featuring langets extending downward from the quillon block, reverse scroll
quillon, and P-shaped guard connecting to the mouth of the lion head pommel; integral
backstrap with “ears”. Oak leaf decoration in low relief on guard and backstrap, spread-
wing eagle on obverse langet and vacant oval escutcheon on reverse langet. Black
Bakelite grip with alternating twisted and single-strand wire wrap. Includes gold portapee
(worn and frayed). Slightly curved 32″ single-edged blade with 3/4-lenght single fuller,
stamped with Robert Klaas/Solingen oval maker’s mark on the reverse. Black-painted steel
scabbard with single carry ring. Hilt with approximately 50% original gilding, primarily in
protected areas; the balance with golden brown patina. Blade near excellent, retaining
nearly all of its original factory polish. Scabbard undented, with 95% original paint, the
balance with small patches of rust, primarily near the drag. Overall length 37 3/8″ (95 cm),
not including scabbard.
