Description
Featuring iron hilt with down-turned pierced shell guard on the obverse, single reverse
scroll quillon, and knucklebow attaching through a small hole in the capstan pommel with
button; remains of engraved decoration on pommel. Tapering cylindrical one-piece horn
grip with iron base ferrule. Curved 23″ single-edged blade with broad full-length fuller
(point slightly rounded). Blade engraved on the upper half with scrolling floral decoration.
While technically these were made as hunting hangers, they were popular with foot officers
during the English Civil Wars and later conflicts. Overall length 28 ½”. Entire sword dark
with age, with some light cleaning to the blade decoration.
