Description
One-piece skull of rounded almond shape with narrow near-flat integral brim projecting to an obtuse point front and rear, its edge formed with a plain inward turn. The base of the crown encircled by nine lining rivets holding a leather band. Two rivets at each side also serve to suspend a narrow tapering one-piece cheek piece (one professionally replaced). Fitted at the rear with two further rivets securing a copper plume holder. Retaining its original black-from-the-hammer finish, showing lamination and forging flaws (one shallow dent near the top). These early helmets almost never retain the cheek pieces.
