Description
Import sword by W. Clauberg of Solingen, Germany featuring iron 3-branch guard with
pierced eagle, “US” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”; reverse scroll quillon. Fish skin grip with
twisted brass wire (minor losses); integral backstrap. Slightly curved 32″ blade with one
broad and one narrow fuller, etched with acanthus decoration and eagle on one side and
“US” on the other; “IRON PROOF” etched on spine; stamped maker’s mark on ricasso
with standing knight and “W CLAUBERG/SOLINGEN”. Guard with dark brown patina;
blade with scattered light pitting and rust marking. No scabbard. Overall length 37 ½”.
