German WWI Trench Art Vase

Description

Made from a German 75 mm brass shell casing, the base clearly marked
“PATRONENFABRIK KARLSRUHE” with “St/271″ and “Sp255″ and the date “FEB 1917″.
It is decorated with an embossed oval cameo with engraved head and shoulders profile of
a woman; surrounded by a punch dot border. The remaining surface of the shell has a
pleasing stippled texture with blackening in the recesses, with a double punch dot border
near the flared top and a single punch dot border at the base. Very good condition with
pleasing patina. Minor dents and one small crack (about 3/16″ long) on the flared top.
