Description
Brass stirrup hilt with Ketland style eagle head pommel, retaining traces of gilding in
protected areas. One-piece reeded bone grip, free from cracks and imperfections; brass
base ferrule. Hilt probably the work of William Ketland & Co. of Birmingham, England and
made for the American market. Broad curved single-edged 28″ blade with wide single
fuller; featuring gold-filled engravings over its upper half depicting foliage and panoplies of
arms (shallow edge nicks near the point and some wear to etching. No scabbard. Very
good condition, Overall length 33 1/4″.
