Description
Cast one-piece bronze axe head featuring angled 1 3/4: convex cutting edge; round 1 1/4″
high socket with raised baluster decoration top and bottom. Excavated condition with dark
green and brown patina and minor encrustation inside the socket. Overall length 4 ½” (114
mm), thickness 1 1/8″ (29 mm), weight 10.35 ounces (294 g). Early axes such as this were
important tools for everyday use and an effective weapon in times of war.
