Description
Head featuring slanted axe blade with 9 1/4” concave cutting edge and two lobes with a single punched hole; downward-angled rear beak with 3 pierced holes and thickened point; 16” diamond-section thrusting spike. Shortened side straps and mounted on later hand-hewn wood shaft with decorative brass-head tacks. Length of metal 23 1/8” ( 58.7 cm), overall 81 1/4” (206.4 cm). Metal and wood with dark age patina; minor forging flaws. Formerly in the War Museum Collection.
