Description
Featuring forged two-piece skull with comb of medium height, the brim and comb with rolled edges; stamped with inventory numbers “3504/18” on one side of the brim and “05.23” on the other. One end with damage to the peak and a hole approximately 2” by 1/2” wide. Since this damage does not appear to be related to corrosion, it was very possibly battle damage. Base of skull with 8 of the original 10 lining rivets, 7 of which retain their decorative brass rosettes. Base of skull with pairs of punched holes, either for lining or the attachment of a mail neck guard. Inside of skull with white painted collection number “A-300”. Typical arsenal grade helmet of the type worn by troops of many European countries during the 16th and 17th Centuries. Metal surface with light pitting and even gunmetal gray patina.
