German Hunting Hanger by Alcoso, 20th C

Description

Featuring brass hilt with down-turned shell guard depicting a hunting dog with bird in its mouth; short quillons with finials shaped as deer hooves; quillon block depicting crossed rifle and hunting sword; stag horn grip with decorated base ferrule; pommel decorated with oak leaves. Single-edged 19 3/4” (50 cm) blade with broad fuller, etched over ¾ of its length with scrolling foliage and hunting dogs; the ricasso marked “Alcoso/SOLLINGEN”. Leather abd red felt blade washer. Alcoso was a major supplier of swords and daggers to the Third Reich. Pommel button unscrews from blade tang for easy assembly/disassembly, similar to the construction of Nazi-era daggers. Near mint condition with sharp etching and minimal wear; the tip of the blade with small section of corrosion. Overall length 25 1/4” (64 cm).
