Description

Recently acquired in England, this panel was recovered as a trophy after the bomber was
shot down over Kent during the London Blitz in late 1940. It is presumably from the vertical
stabilizer of a JU88 medium bomber. The panel is made of aluminum and measures
approximately 23″ x 18″. It is painted green with a black swstika outlined in white. There is
a gash through the left side of the swastika, which was likely caused by shrapnel.
Untouched since its recovery, it shows dirt and grime consistent with its history. Since the
aircraft wreckage was generally melted as scrap and few survive today, these war trophies
are highly prized by collectors today.
