Description
Made entirely of steel, this deeply convex 29 1/4″ diameter shield features rolled edge and
large central boss in the shape of a smiling face, surrounded by six smaller bosses. Hand-
painted overall with numerous male and female human figures in period dress and warriors
on foot and on horseback with weapons, flags, and accouterments; all with a dark
background with floral decoration. There is no padding or carry straps on the back and
there is some rust and substantial paint loss, but this is a very high quality and impressive
piece worthy of restoration, or display as-is.
