Description

Featuring 14″ symmetrical double-edged blade with medial ridge; integrally forged
symmetrical angular side lugs, one stamped with faint maker’s mark. Faceted conical
ferrule, made without side straps; mounted on later round wood shaft. Shows great age;
the metal with pitting and a rust-through in one spot on the ferrule and along the ferrule’s
edges, making the head a little loose on the shaft. Length of metal 19 ½”; overall 83″. An
example of identical form is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and pictured in “Hafted
Weapons in Medieval and Renaissance Europe”, by John Waldman, Fig. 1, page 8. Price
