Description

The Roman lock was a type of flintlock similar to a miquelet that was popular in the late 17th and 18th Centuries in Central Italy, which features the mainspring on the outside. This pair features plain unmarked locks with flat lock plates. Unmarked octagonal-to-round 6” barrels of approximately .52 caliber. Highly figured walnut full stocks with brass mounts consisting on trigger guard, side plate, ramrod thimbles, fore end band, butt cap, and vacant wrist escutcheon, each with floral decoration. Horn-tipped wood ramrods, one tip replaced. Overall length 10 1/8” (25.7 cm). Very good condition, the metal cleaned and smooth, mechanically excellent. Very similar pistol illustrated in “ARMI DA FUOCO ITALIANE”, fig. 200-201.
