Description
The body made from an inert brass 37mm shell dated 1942 decorated with raised
embossed Lady Liberty, Liberty Bell, sailing ship, anchor and shield marked “NAVY”, eagle,
US flag, a star marked “32 BATT” and the date “1943″, all on a stippled background. The
base of the shell with embossed “USN” and inscribed with the maker’s name “C.E. McKay”.
The 37mm shell sits on the base of a 5″ brass shell casing forming the lamp’s base. The
push-button lamp socket is mounted atop the inert 37mm projectile. Period electrical
components work, but may require upgrade for safety purposes. Old tape label on
underside of base reads “SOUVENIR LAMP/MADE OF U.S. 37MM/1942 SHELL & 45 CAL
SHELLS/& USN 5 IN SHELL. DESIGN/OF C. MCKAY. U.S. NAVY 32th/BATT SEABEES
1943. W.W.II”. Overall height 17 1/4″, weight 7 pounds 2 ounces. Shade not included, but
available at Walmart for under $10. Not responsible for injuries related to wiring since this
