Description
Iron hilt of flattened bars, consisting of knuckle bow and reverse down-curved quillon with scrolled finial, heart-shaped side ring filled with a plate pierced with a pattern of round and star-shaped holes, which continues with a bar connected with a screw to the faceted spherical pommel at 90 degrees to the knuckle bow; thumb ring on reverse. Wood grip, without wrap. Double-edged 32” blade with 8 1/2” central fuller, stamped with illegible inscription and across mark on each side. Metal with patches of light to moderate pitting and dark patina. Overall length 37 3/4”. Broadsword typical of those carried by troops of Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus during the Thirty Years War.
