Description
Featuring 44 3/4” (113.7 cm), .70 caliber round barrel marked at the breech “US” over eagle and “CT” cartouche and “V”, “V” also marked on the breech plug tang; flat lock with pointed tail marked “2” behind the cock and with a spread-wing eagle over “US” below the pan. Walnut stock with “V/BM” cartouche for Benjamin Moor. Iron mounts, including a butt plate with a rounded tang, trigger guard with pointed finials, flat serpentine side plate, three barrel bands secured by springs, and steel rammer with button head marked “US”. Sling swivels on middle band and trigger guard tang. Overall length 59 3/4 in. (151.8 cm). Dark patina to metal with clear markings and scattered age staining. Stock solid, with no cracks or missing wood, and only minor handling wear. Likely a state contract musket for Connecticut and veteran of the War of 1812.
