Lockplate stamped "BURNSIDE RIFLE Co/PROVIDENCE R.I."; top of frame stamped "BURNSIDE PATENT/MARCH 25^TH 1856." Front blade sight and folding rear sight. Saddle bar and ring on left side. Action tight and functions smoothly; bore good. Metal surfaces blued, turned to a rich brown overall with areas of light pitting. Oil finished walnut stock with inspector’s cartouches on left side, showing numerous light blemishes and handling marks. A good honest example of a Civil War used Burnside cavalry carbine.
