Description
One-piece silk flag, 21″ x 25″, with central dyed “meatball”, around which are numerous
Japanese signatures and wishes for good luck. There are several red “shori” (victory)
stamps. Many times these flags were blessed by priests, and the soldier would wrap the
flag around their body or put under their helmet, believing it would give them divine
protection. This example came from the same source as the kamikaze hachimaki
headband listed elsewhere on this site. The flag has a few small stains and several holes in
the “meatball”.
