Description
Featuring hand-forged iron head with broad angled slightly concave axe blade and broad angled rear beak; each pierced with a punched clover shape. Slender 17” diamond-section thrusting spike, widening at the base. The original integrally forged side straps have been shortened and later extensions added. Mounted on later rectangular wood shaft. Metal shows scattered light pitting, lamination, and a gray gunmetal patina. Length of metal 37 3/4” (96 cm), overall 76” (193 cm).
