Description
French Huguenot Israel Segalas immigrated to England in the early 18th C and set up shop in London around 1711. Around 1729, his son, also named Israel, began studying under him and the two worked together until the elder’s death in 1763. They were best known for their all-steel box lock pocket pistols. This example with double 1 5/16” long rifled screw-off barrels of approximately .31 caliber. Flintlock box lock mechanism, marked “SEGLAS” on right side and “LONDON” on the left, with two hammers and two triggers. Steel grip with rounded butt, broad trigger guard, each engraved with shells and scrolling foliage. Included is the very rare original barrel wrench, which almost never survives. Overall length 6”. Very good condition with crisp mechanism and strong rifling; showing minor wear and rust marking. The only example we have encountered with its original barrel wrench.
