Description

Classified by author and expert R. Ewart Oakeshott as a Type X, the distinguishing
feature being the broad medium-length blade with wide central full-length fuller with
slightly rounded point. This example in very good conserved excavated condition features
a large flat disc pommel with slightly hollow chamferred edge, marked with a deeply struck
simple cross on each side. Broad flat tapering tang; guard of “Gaddhjalt” (spike-hilt) form
of straight tapering rectangular-section. The broad 28 3/4″ blade with wide shallow fuller
is marked on one side with a stylized cross in a circle with remains of gold inlay.
Complete except for grip and in very good condition for an excavated piece, showing
lamination. Overall length 35″.
