Featuring small pierced concave axe head with birds heads and down-turned rear beak; diamond-section 15” thrusting spike with turned baluster base. Integral conical ferrule with single shortened side strap; mounted on later painted round-section hardwood shaft. Metal with scattered pitting and light scratches; mottled gray-black patina. Length of metal 23 1/4″, overall 84″. Halberds of this type were often carried by the color guard and used to defend a regiment=s honor at any cost.
