Description
Featuring blued steel hilt, comprising small pas d’ane, oval guard with cusped edges,
reverse scroll quillon, and knuckle bow with expanded central section, connecting to the
ovoid pommel with tang button; decorated ensuite with floral motif in low relief with gilt
stippled background. Steel grip with star pattern formed of raised dots. Slender 32 1/4″
(81.9 cm) blade of hollow-ground triangular section, the forte with engraved floral decoration
(worn); red felt blade washer. Original wood scabbard covered with thin black leather (old
repair) and fitted with plain steel throat middle band and chape with ball finial; carry rings on
throat and middle band. These fragile scabbards rarely survive in any condition. Steel on
hilt has turned a dark gray, with areas worn bright and some rust marking. The blade bright,
with small patches of stabilized corrosion. Overall length 38 1/2″ (97.8 cm), not including
scabbard.
