Description
Featuring brass hilt with eagle head pommel and integral back strap; knuckle guard with two
branches expanding to an oval guard with the Mexican eagle and snake motif in relief;
down-turned rear quillon and counterguard. Dark brown leather-covered grip with single
strand brass wire wrap and base ferrule; indecipherable inscription on backstrap. Curved
29 1/2″ (75 cm) single-edged blade with single 3/4 length fuller near the back edge;
engraved over nearly it’s entire length with scrolling foliage and patriotic mottos in Spanish,
including the date “OCTUBRE 8. DE 1869″. No scabbard. Very good condition; the blade
with gunmetal gray patina, shallow edge nicks, and light pitting; the hilt with pleasing golden
brown patina. Overall length 34 3/4″ (90.8 cm).
