Polish-Hungarian Mace, 17th C

Description

Head formed of 10 thick rounded iron flanges with button cap; tapering round-section iron
ferrule with decorative brass ring at the base; mounted on original wood shaft. In as-
found condition, likely a cellar find, the grip covering having long since disintegrated and
part of the wood on one side having deteriorated from moisture and lying in the same
position for decades. At the base of the ferrule on one side a piece approx. ½” x 3/8″ has
rusted through. Early Eastern European fighting mace untouched since its period of use.
Length of iron 8″, overall 17 1/4″.
