Description
This hand-forged bearded iron axe head features slightly convex angled 3 ½” cutting edge,
oval eye for mounting a shaft (absent), and a short rectangular hammer head on the
reverse. The shape of the axe head puts most of the weight toward the cutting edge,
making it a very effective, yet light-weight battle implement. Very good cleaned and
stabilized excavated condition, showing mineral impurities and pitting. Length 5″ (130 mm),
weight 10 ounces (283 g). From a London art and antique gallery.
