Description
Featuring 18″ diamond-section thrusting blade with engraved leaf decoration and a knot
formed of six individual grotesque masks inset into its base. Head with angled concave
axe blade with large downward-curved rear beak; the entire head pierced and chiseled with
scrolls and mythical beasts. At a right angle to the head as a downward-curved spike with
stud on the opposite side. Faceted conical ferrule with engraved decoration and integral
side straps; mounted on octagonal wood haft (scattered dings and scratches), possibly the
original. Very good condition with smooth and clean metal. Very attractive polearm of
the type carried by palace guards. Length of metal 41 1/4″, overall 94″.
