Description

Featuring two-piece cast brass hilt with asymmetrical shell guard depicting crude face in
low relief on one side (quillon missing) with integral knucklebow joining the lion-head
pommel. Pommel and grip cast together in one piece. Straight 21 3/4″ double-edged
blade of hexagonal-section with deeply struck man-in-the-moon mark on each side.
Several German swordsmiths of the 16th and 17th C used this type of mark. Blade dark
with age and old collection tag “133″, covered with an old coating of varnish, now yellowed
with age. Overall length 27″. Unlike any sword we have ever encountered, either in
person or in publications.
