Description
Featuring 37” smoothbore barrel of approximately .70 caliber, deeply stamped with view and proof marks at the breech; tang with stamped crown over “6”. Slightly rounded lock plate with double line border, stamped with crown over “GR” and broad arrow ordnance mark forward of the cock and “TOWER” vertically behind; rounded swan-neck cock. Figured walnut full stock with storekeeper’s marks on the butt with date “91” (1791) and III.C.R., for Third Class Reserve; inspector’s initials “AW” behind the side plate. Brass mounts, including butt plate, side plate, trigger guard, fore end cap, and three ramrod thimbles. Iron ramrod and single sling swivel on the forward end of the trigger guard. Socket bayonet with 13 3/8” hollow-ground triangular-section blade, stamped with “Osborn” in script and crown over “19”. Metal smooth, the barrel with mottled brown finish, lock markings excellent. Stock sound, with numerous dents from field use; stock markings sharp and clear. Overall length 52 1/2”.
